Monkey Lyly was a curious little girl with bright eyes and a head full of wild ideas. She was always asking questions—about the wind, the stars, and even why bananas had peels. But more than anything, Lyly was curious about the mysterious box her mother kept high on the shelf: the makeup box.
Every morning, Lyly watched her mother sit in front of the mirror, dabbing colors on her cheeks and painting her eyelids like an artist decorating a canvas. “One day,” Lyly whispered to herself, “I’ll try it too.”
One afternoon, when her mother was out picking fruit, Lyly saw her chance. She climbed the shelf like a pro, grabbed the box, and tiptoed to the mirror. Her little hands opened it with awe. Inside were shiny powders, twisty tubes, and soft brushes. It was like a treasure chest from the human world.
First, she dusted pink powder all over her face. Then, she smeared red lipstick across her lips… and accidentally over her nose too. “Ooh!” she giggled, “I look like a jungle princess!”
But Lyly didn’t stop there. She tried the glittery blue eyeshadow, drawing giant sparkly circles around her eyes. She brushed mascara on her eyebrows (and some on her ears). Soon, she looked more like a rainbow than a monkey!
Just as she posed in front of the mirror, proud of her creation, the door creaked open. It was Mama.
“Lyly…” her mother said, trying not to laugh at the colorful sight. “What have you done?”
Lyly froze. “I just wanted to be pretty like you…”
Mama knelt beside her, smiling gently. “You are always beautiful, my curious little monkey. But next time, ask me—and we’ll play together.”
From then on, Sundays became “Makeup Monkey Day,” and Mama and Lyly would paint their faces with flowers, stars, and jungle colors, sharing giggles, stories, and love.
And though Lyly stayed just as curious, she learned that some secrets are better shared.
