Little Monkey Lyly was having a fun and peaceful afternoon playing with her blocks and pretending to cook in her tiny toy kitchen. She giggled as she stirred an invisible soup and handed her mom a pretend spoonful. Everything seemed perfect—until suddenly, Lyly paused. Her face changed. She looked around with wide eyes, quietly stood still for a moment… and then continued playing like nothing happened.
But something had happened.
Lyly had pooped in her diaper. She knew it. And she also knew she didn’t want her mother to find out just yet. She tiptoed away from her toys and found a cozy corner in the living room, where she sat down and covered herself with a blanket, hoping to hide. Her nose wrinkled slightly, and she looked around nervously. “Maybe Mom won’t notice,” she whispered to herself.
But moms always notice.
From the kitchen, Mom called out, “Lyly, are you okay?” Lyly peeked her head out and gave a nervous smile. “I’m just resting!” she replied quickly, then ducked back under the blanket. Moments later, Mom walked over. The smell was already a giveaway. She knelt beside Lyly and gently asked, “Did something happen, sweetie?”
Lyly’s ears drooped, and her cheeks turned red. She shook her head at first, but then slowly nodded, her eyes wide with guilt. “I… I didn’t mean to,” she whispered.
Mom just smiled warmly and scooped her up gently. “That’s okay, Lyly. Accidents happen. Let’s get you cleaned up, alright?”
After a warm bath and some fresh clothes, Lyly felt much better. Her embarrassment faded, replaced by relief and comfort. She hugged her mom tightly and said, “Next time, I’ll tell you right away.”
Her mom kissed her forehead and said, “That’s my big girl.” And just like that, Lyly went back to her toys, a little wiser and a lot cleaner, knowing that her mom’s love was always there—no matter what.
