It had been several weeks since Monkey Lyly last saw her best friend, Gao the chicken. They had grown up together on the same farm, spending sunny days chasing butterflies and sharing snacks under the mango tree. But ever since Gao moved to a nearby village with his new family, Lyly had been feeling an emptiness in her heart. Every evening, she would sit by the window, looking toward the road where they used to play, whispering softly, “I wonder if Gao misses me too.”
One morning, Lyly woke up early, unable to ignore the longing any longer. “That’s it—I’m going to see Gao!” she exclaimed, determination shining in her eyes. She pulled out her tiny backpack and began packing. She carefully folded her favorite pink dress, a few bananas for the road, and a small gift she made herself—a little bracelet of colorful leaves and flowers.
Her mother watched with a warm smile. “You really miss Gao, don’t you?” Lyly nodded quickly. “I just want to see him and tell him I didn’t forget our friendship.” With her bag slung over her shoulder, Lyly set off down the forest path, humming happily despite the long journey ahead.
When she finally reached Gao’s new home, she spotted him scratching the ground near the fence. “Gao!” she called out. The chicken froze, then turned around, his eyes widening with joy. “Lyly!” he clucked, flapping his wings excitedly. The two friends ran toward each other, laughing and hugging tightly.
They spent the entire afternoon together—playing, eating fruit, and catching up on everything they had missed. As the sun set, Gao perched beside Lyly and softly said, “I missed you every day.” Tears welled up in her eyes, but this time they were tears of happiness.
That night, Lyly returned home with a full heart, knowing that true friendship never fades with time or distance. Sometimes, all it takes is love—and a brave little journey—to bring two hearts back together again.
