Lyly the monkey was known for her curiosity and playful mischief, but one quiet afternoon she outdid herself. While her mother was busy cleaning near the house, Lyly noticed the neighbor’s chicken wandering freely near the fence. The chicken pecked the ground calmly, completely unaware that it had caught Lyly’s attention. Lyly’s eyes sparkled with excitement. To her, the chicken wasn’t trouble—it was a new “friend.”
Looking around carefully, Lyly tiptoed toward the fence. With surprising gentleness, she scooped the chicken into her arms. The chicken flapped its wings in confusion, but Lyly hugged it tightly and covered its head softly, just like she did with her toys. Slowly and quietly, she carried the chicken back home, hiding behind bushes and boxes along the way. Her heart raced with excitement as she succeeded in her secret mission.
Inside the house, Lyly placed the chicken in a corner and proudly patted its back. She brought it bits of food, sat beside it, and even tried to groom its feathers. The chicken clucked nervously, unsure why it was suddenly living in a monkey’s home. Lyly smiled proudly, convinced she had done something wonderful.
When Lyly’s mother walked in and saw the chicken, she froze. Her reaction wasn’t what anyone expected. She didn’t shout or panic. Instead, she stared silently for a moment, then let out a long sigh. Lyly waited for anger, shrinking slightly, but her mother simply shook her head and sat down. The calm response confused Lyly even more than anger would have.
After a few seconds, her mother gently approached, carefully picked up the chicken, and checked to make sure it wasn’t hurt. Then she looked at Lyly with a mix of amusement and disappointment. With slow gestures and soft sounds, she explained that the chicken belonged to the neighbor and had to be returned. Lyly lowered her head, realizing her mistake.
Together, mother and daughter carried the chicken back next door. The neighbor laughed in relief, and the chicken happily ran back to its yard. On the way home, Lyly held her mother’s hand tightly. That day, she learned that curiosity can be fun, but respect and understanding matter too. Her mother’s strange calm reaction made the lesson even more unforgettable.
