CUTIS and BuEm whispered excitedly in the corner of the room, glancing at Dad every few seconds to make sure he wasn’t watching. To Dad, it looked like an ordinary morning. He sipped his tea, checked his phone, and smiled at the calm. What he didn’t know was that the calm was only the cover for something big.
The idea had started the night before. CUTIS noticed Dad looked tired after a long day, rubbing his shoulders and sighing quietly. BuEm saw it too. With serious faces and exaggerated nods, the two decided Dad needed a surprise—something special, something full of love. They didn’t have much, but they had imagination and determination.
Early in the morning, CUTIS helped clean the room in his own messy way, pushing things into neat-looking piles. BuEm carefully arranged cushions into a “relaxing corner,” even placing a small flower on top for decoration. They worked silently, occasionally freezing whenever Dad moved, then bursting into silent laughter when he didn’t notice a thing.
When everything was ready, BuEm tugged on Dad’s hand and led him into the room. CUTIS jumped out first, arms wide, proudly announcing their surprise. Dad stopped in his tracks. The room wasn’t perfect, but it was filled with effort—clean blankets, a handmade card with crooked letters, and a small tray with Dad’s favorite snack.
The card read: “For the best Dad. Please rest.”
Dad’s eyes softened immediately. He knelt down and pulled both CUTIS and BuEm into a tight hug. Neither of them expected tears, but there they were—happy ones. Dad laughed and wiped his eyes, telling them how proud he was.
Then came the final surprise. CUTIS and BuEm gently pushed Dad toward the relaxing corner and insisted he sit. BuEm pretended to fan him, while CUTIS attempted a very serious shoulder massage that was more tickling than helpful. Dad laughed so hard he nearly fell over.
In that moment, Dad realized something important. The biggest surprises don’t come wrapped in boxes. They come from love, thoughtfulness, and two little hearts that noticed he needed care too.
