The afternoon sky had been bright just moments earlier, but suddenly the wind picked up, carrying the scent of rain. Dark clouds rolled in quickly, shading the yard where freshly washed clothes hung neatly on the line. Inside the house, Dad was busy fixing a cabinet and didn’t notice the storm brewing outside.
But little Cubis the monkey did.
Cubis sat by the window, munching on a piece of banana, when he felt a cool breeze brush against his fur. He looked up, saw the clouds gathering, and his eyes widened. “Uh-oh!” he squeaked, pressing his tiny hands to the glass. The clothes! Dad’s clean shirts and Mom’s dresses were still outside, swaying helplessly in the growing wind.
Without waiting another second, Cubis dropped his banana and scampered across the living room.
“Dad! Dad!” he chirped—though Dad didn’t quite understand monkey talk. Still, Cubis tugged at his pant leg urgently, pointing toward the door with frantic gestures.
Dad finally looked outside and gasped. “Oh no—the clothes!”
But before he could stand up, Cubis was already one step ahead.
The clever little monkey dashed out to the yard, his tail curled tightly for balance. The first droplet of rain landed right on top of his head, making him squeal and move even faster. He hurried to the clothesline, reaching up with both hands to grab a shirt. It was a bit too tall for him… so he hopped, stretched, and finally managed to pull it down.
Piece by piece, Cubis collected the clothes—shirts, towels, socks, even the tiny laundry clips that tried to escape in the wind. He carried small items in his mouth, larger ones bundled in his arms, racing back and forth to bring them to the porch. Each time Dad reached out to help, Cubis was already grabbing the next item, determined to save everything before the rain poured.
Just as the sky finally opened up, Cubis placed the last shirt safely inside the doorway. Dad scooped him up with a proud laugh. “Cubis, you’re amazing! You saved our laundry!”
Cubis puffed up proudly, tail flicking with joy.
Smart, quick, and full of heart—Cubis had once again saved the day.
