Oh No! Burnt Potatoes Put Cubis in Hot Water—Can Dad Help?

It was a quiet afternoon at home when Cubis the little monkey decided to help Mom in the kitchen. He had seen her cook many times before, so he thought, “How hard can it be?” With Mom resting in the living room and Dad working outside, Cubis saw his chance to impress everyone.

He climbed onto the counter, grabbed a few potatoes, and dropped them into a pan—just like Mom always did. Then, with a proud grin, he turned on the stove. At first, everything seemed fine. The sizzling sound made him clap his tiny hands in excitement. But a few minutes later, the smell began to change. It wasn’t delicious anymore—it was smoky!

Cubis sniffed the air and frowned. The potatoes were burning! He waved his hands frantically, trying to fan away the smoke, but that only made things worse. Smoke filled the kitchen, and Cubis started to panic. He ran in circles, squeaking loudly for help.

Hearing the commotion, Dad rushed in. “Cubis! What happened?!” he exclaimed. The sight made him laugh and worry at the same time—his curious little monkey stood there with soot on his face, eyes wide in guilt, while a blackened pan sat on the stove.

Dad quickly turned off the burner and opened the windows. “You’re lucky I came in time, buddy,” he said, gently lifting Cubis off the counter. Cubis lowered his head, holding one burnt potato in his tiny hands like an apology gift.

Mom came in moments later, coughing from the smoke but unable to stay angry after seeing Cubis’s sad little face. “Oh, Cubis,” she sighed with a smile, “you were just trying to help, weren’t you?”

After cleaning up the kitchen, Dad decided to teach Cubis how to cook safely—under supervision this time! Together they made a new batch of golden, crispy potatoes. When they were done, Cubis proudly brought the plate to Mom, his tail swishing with joy.

That day, the burnt potatoes turned into a funny family story—and a sweet reminder that even mistakes can lead to precious memories when there’s love, laughter, and a little monkey in the mix.
