Dad was pacing back and forth in the living room, his eyebrows scrunched in worry. “I can’t believe this,” he muttered, patting his pockets again. “My wallet is gone!” Inside were his ID, some cash, and even the card he needed for work. Losing it was no small problem.
Cubis, watching from the couch with curious eyes, tilted his head. He might have been small, but he wasn’t just any ordinary pet—Cubis had a knack for paying attention to little details. When Dad dropped his keys or misplaced his glasses, Cubis was usually the first one to notice. Today would be no different.
Dad sighed and sat down, trying to retrace his steps out loud. “I had it when I went to the shop… then I came back… but where could it be now?” He looked tired and frustrated. Cubis jumped down and tugged gently at Dad’s pant leg, as if saying, Let me try.
Sniffing around, Cubis started his investigation. He went to the kitchen first, poking his nose near the grocery bags, but nothing. Then he trotted to the hallway, sniffing near Dad’s shoes. Suddenly, Cubis paused, ears perked. He pawed at the edge of the couch, then crawled halfway underneath. His tail wagged furiously as he dragged something out.
“Cubis! What did you find?” Dad exclaimed, leaning forward. Sure enough, in Cubis’s mouth was the missing wallet! It must have slipped from Dad’s pocket when he sat down after shopping and slid out of sight.
Dad laughed in relief, scooping up his clever little helper. “You saved me, Cubis! What would I do without you?” He gave him a big hug and a scratch behind the ears. Cubis looked proud, tail swishing happily, as if he knew exactly how important his discovery was.
From that day on, Dad trusted Cubis’s sharp eyes and nose more than ever. And whenever something went missing, the family’s first call was always, “Cubis, can you help us?”
