It was a peaceful afternoon, and Monkey Lyly was unusually quiet. Her mother, busy tidying up the house, suddenly noticed Lyly sneaking around with something hidden behind her back. Suspicious, Mom narrowed her eyes and called out, “Lyly, what are you up to?”
Startled, Lyly froze for a moment, then gave a guilty little smile. Of course, this only made her mother even more suspicious. Mom immediately thought Lyly must have taken something she shouldn’t have—maybe a snack from the kitchen or one of her precious trinkets! Without waiting for an explanation, Mom walked over quickly, knelt down, and gently pulled Lyly’s hands forward.
To her shock, it wasn’t anything bad at all. It was a tiny, wilted flower Lyly had picked from the garden, carefully hidden because she wanted to surprise her mother. Seeing the flower, Mom’s heart immediately melted. Her earlier anger turned into pure guilt. Little Lyly’s big, innocent eyes looked up at her, confused by the scolding when she had just wanted to give her mother a gift.
Feeling terrible, Mom scooped Lyly up in her arms, showering her with kisses and apologies. Lyly giggled, feeling much better once she realized she wasn’t really in trouble. Together, they put the little flower in a small glass of water and placed it in the center of the table like a priceless treasure.
The misunderstanding ended in a warm hug, laughter, and a sweet new memory. Mom realized that sometimes, slowing down and trusting Lyly’s good heart could avoid these little moments of confusion. Meanwhile, Lyly learned that even when things get misunderstood, her mother’s love is always bigger than any mistake.
From that day on, whenever Lyly found a flower, she would proudly hand it over without hiding it—because she knew her mom would always appreciate her small but mighty acts of love.
