The morning sky was dark and heavy with rain, and the soft pattering of raindrops against the window woke little Monkey Cubis earlier than usual. He yawned and rubbed his sleepy eyes, expecting to hear the familiar sound of Dad preparing breakfast or calling his name with a cheerful, “Good morning, Cubis!” But today, the house felt unusually silent. Dad had left early for an important trip, and Cubis was already missing him terribly.
The gloomy weather only made his heart feel heavier. Cubis tiptoed to Dad’s room, hoping he might still be there. But the neatly folded blanket and empty pillow reminded him that Dad wouldn’t be home until later tonight. Cubis sat down and hugged his tiny arms around himself, wishing the day would pass faster.
Mom noticed his sad little face and came over with a warm hug. “Dad will be back soon, sweetie,” she comforted him, wiping away the tears that formed in the corners of his eyes. To help brighten the mood, she suggested they follow Dad’s morning routine together. Cubis’s eyes sparkled just a little—anything to feel closer to Dad.
First, they made Dad’s favorite breakfast: banana pancakes shaped like little hearts. Cubis giggled when he accidentally flipped one onto the floor, imagining Dad laughing too. Then they played Dad’s favorite music, the calming tunes that always made Cubis dance around the living room. Even though the rain still poured outside, the house slowly began to feel warm and cheerful again.
After breakfast, Mom helped Cubis put on his tiny raincoat and boots. They stepped outside under a big umbrella and splashed through puddles, just like Dad always did with him. Cubis laughed loudly for the first time that morning, sending his sadness away with each splash.
Back home, Cubis made a small drawing of himself and Dad holding hands under a sunny sky. Mom promised to give it to Dad as soon as he returned.
As the day went on, Cubis curled up on the couch with his favorite blanket, feeling much better. Though he still missed Dad, his heart felt warm—he knew Dad’s love was always with him, even on rainy days.
