Little Cubis, the playful monkey, is usually the bravest in the family—always climbing furniture, swinging from curtains, and sneaking snacks when no one is looking. But the moment the sky darkens and thunder begins to rumble, Cubis’s courage quickly disappears. One stormy afternoon, the booming sound of thunder shook the house, and Cubis panicked. His tiny heart raced as flashes of lightning lit up the windows.
Instead of clinging to his mother like he usually does, Cubis darted around the room looking for a safe place. His little feet pattered across the floor until he spotted the washing machine door left slightly open. Without hesitation, he squeezed inside and curled up tightly, trembling from head to toe. For him, the washing machine became a secret cave, a shelter from the terrifying roars of the sky.
At first, no one could find him. His family searched under beds, behind the sofa, even in the closet. “Cubis! Where are you?” they called, worried he had somehow slipped outside. Then, a pair of big brown eyes peeked nervously from the washing machine’s door. There he was, shivering but safe.
When his mother reached in to scoop him up, Cubis refused to come out at first. He buried his face in his arms, not wanting to leave his hiding spot. It took gentle coaxing, soft words, and a warm blanket to finally convince him it was okay. Once in her arms, Cubis clung tightly, pressing his little face into her chest as the thunderstorm rumbled on outside.
Though the storm eventually passed, his family couldn’t help but laugh a little at the sight of Cubis choosing such a silly hiding place. But they also felt touched—behind his mischief and playfulness, he was still just a baby looking for comfort.
Now, whenever thunder begins, they make sure to keep a blanket ready and stay by his side. After all, even the bravest little monkeys need a safe place to hide sometimes.
