It was supposed to be an ordinary afternoon, but with Cubis the monkey, nothing ever stays ordinary for long. Dad had just finished cleaning up Cubis’s play area, certain that his little mischief-maker would stay put for a while. But the moment Dad turned his back, Cubis spotted the open gate and seized his chance for adventure. With a quick hop and a wiggle of his tail, he was gone!
At first, Dad didn’t notice. He hummed while sweeping, proud of himself for keeping things tidy. But when he turned around, the silence hit him—no playful chatter, no rustling toys. “Cubis?” Dad called, peeking around the corner. No sign. His eyes widened. “Oh no… not again!”
Thus began the great search. Dad looked under the couch, behind the door, even inside the laundry basket. Still nothing. Meanwhile, Cubis was only a few feet away, perched on top of the kitchen cabinet, watching the whole scene like it was the best comedy show. His tiny shoulders shook as if he were giggling at Dad’s growing frustration.
“Where could you be, little rascal?” Dad muttered, scratching his head. He even stepped outside, searching the yard, calling Cubis’s name as though the monkey might politely answer back. But Cubis wasn’t ready to reveal himself just yet. He climbed down silently, grabbed a shiny spoon from the counter, and tapped it against the floor—just enough to make Dad spin around in confusion.
Finally, Dad spotted two curious eyes peeking out from under the table. “Gotcha!” he exclaimed, pretending to pounce. But Cubis dashed away at lightning speed, sending Dad chasing circles around the house. The chase ended when Cubis leapt right back into his playpen, as if nothing had happened at all.
Dad collapsed onto a chair, panting but laughing. “You little trickster,” he said, shaking his head. Cubis just sat there, wide-eyed and innocent, as though he hadn’t caused chaos. But the sparkle in his eyes told the truth—escaping and watching Dad scramble had been his grand adventure of the day.
