Cubis the monkey was having the most wonderful dream. He was swinging from tall trees, munching on ripe bananas, and dancing with butterflies in a sunny jungle. Just as he was about to slide down a rainbow vine, “Cubis! Wake up, sweetheart!” Aunt’s cheerful voice rang through the room, pulling him out of dreamland.
Cubis groaned, rolled over, and buried his face into the pillow. “Five more minutes…” he mumbled, clutching his blanket tighter. But Aunt had other plans.
She gently pulled the blanket off. “No more sleeping, little monkey. We have a big day ahead!” she said with a smile. That only made Cubis angrier.
He sat up with a scowl, his hair messy, and his eyes squinting. “Why sooo early, Auntie?” he pouted. “The sun isn’t even up all the way!”
Aunt giggled, trying to brush his fur. “You promised we’d go to the farmer’s market early, remember? The bananas you love go fast!”
But Cubis crossed his arms and turned away. “Not fair,” he grumbled. “Dream bananas are better anyway…”
Despite his mood, Aunt stayed patient. She put on his favorite jungle shirt, made warm banana pancakes, and poured his favorite mango juice. Slowly, Cubis began to perk up, though he tried to keep his grumpy face on.
“Just one bite,” Aunt offered, holding up a piece of pancake.
Cubis sniffed it, then gave in—one bite turned into three, and before long, he was munching away happily. His tail even gave a little wag.
“See? Being up early isn’t so bad,” Aunt smiled, handing him a little backpack.
Cubis finally cracked a smile. “Only if there’s pancakes… and bananas… and maybe a rainbow vine later.”
With a full belly and slightly better mood, Cubis walked out the door hand-in-hand with Aunt. He still wasn’t happy about waking up early—but he had to admit, with Aunt by his side, the day didn’t seem so bad after all.
