It was a sunny afternoon, and the kitchen was filled with the sweet, juicy scent of fresh watermelon. Aunt had just brought in a big, ripe melon from the market, and as she placed it on the counter, a tiny helper was already waiting—Cubis the monkey, sitting with wide eyes and wagging tail, ready for action.
“Want to help me make watermelon juice, Cubis?” Aunt asked with a smile.
Cubis clapped his little hands excitedly and nodded. He loved helping in the kitchen, especially when it involved something so delicious. Aunt handed him a small towel to wipe the counter, and to her surprise, Cubis did it perfectly, even stopping to look up for approval every few seconds.
With the melon cut open, Aunt scooped out the bright red pieces and dropped them into the blender. Cubis watched every move carefully. When she handed him a few seedless chunks, he gently placed them into the blender one by one—though he may have snuck a bite or two along the way!
“Only a little taste, Cubis!” Aunt laughed, shaking her head fondly.
Once everything was ready, Aunt guided Cubis’s tiny hand to the blender button. “Ready?” she asked. Cubis nodded, and together they pushed the button. Vrrrmmm! The blender roared to life, and Cubis’s eyes widened in amazement as the fruit turned into bright pink juice.
When it was all done, Aunt poured the juice into two glasses, added a bit of ice, and gave Cubis a silly curly straw. They sat down together, sipping their homemade treat. Cubis let out a happy squeal, his tail swishing with joy.
“You were such a good helper today,” Aunt said, giving him a gentle pat.
Cubis beamed with pride. Helping in the kitchen, making something yummy, and spending time with his favorite aunt—what could be better?
