It had been several days since Cubis and Cutis had last seen each other, and for two little monkeys who were usually inseparable, the distance felt like forever. They had always done everything together—eating, playing, even getting into mischief—but now, Cutis was staying with another caretaker for a short time, and Cubis had been missing him terribly.
Every morning, Cubis would wake up and look around, hoping to see Cutis’ sleepy face next to his. Instead, there was only silence. He would sit near the window, watching the trees sway, hoping his best friend might magically swing by. But the days kept passing.
Seeing how sad Cubis was, his caretaker had an idea. She pulled out her smartphone and said, “Would you like to see Cutis?”
Cubis’s ears perked up immediately. He tilted his head, curious. Then, on the screen, appeared Cutis—his eyes wide, his mouth opening in a surprised and joyful squeak.
“Cutis!” Cubis clapped his tiny hands and squealed with excitement.
Cutis responded with happy chirps, bouncing up and down in his caretaker’s arms. The two began “talking” in their own monkey way—excited sounds, little gestures, and lots of smiles. Cubis even tried to kiss the screen, making everyone around burst into laughter.
Though they couldn’t touch, it was clear they felt the connection. Cubis showed Cutis his favorite snack, pointing proudly at his half-eaten banana. Cutis, in return, held up a toy they had once shared. The two friends stayed like that for a long time, refusing to look away, soaking up every second of their video call.
When the call finally ended, Cubis looked calmer, happier. He curled up with the toy Cutis had once left behind, comforted by the memory—and the promise that they’d be reunited soon.
Friendship like theirs knows no bounds, not even distance. And thanks to a simple smartphone, their bond stayed strong, heart to heart, screen to screen.
