It was a beautiful sunny afternoon when Cubis Monkey and his dad went for a walk in the countryside. The air was fresh, the birds were chirping, and wildflowers swayed gently in the breeze. Dad had brought along a small picnic, and Cubis was happily munching on bananas and sweet corn as they explored the grassy hills together.
But as they walked deeper into the open fields, Cubis suddenly slowed down. He shifted from foot to foot, looking around nervously. Dad noticed the change right away and asked kindly, “Everything okay, Cubis?”
Cubis looked up with wide eyes, then quickly turned his head and shook it. “I’m fine, Dad,” he whispered, but his cheeks were turning a little red. Something was clearly going on.
After a few more steps, Cubis stopped altogether. He scanned the area, then quietly tiptoed behind a bush and peeked back at his dad, who was pretending not to notice. Cubis wanted some privacy—it was that time. Nature was calling!
Dad smiled to himself but didn’t say a word. He knew Cubis could be shy about these things, especially when they were far from home. So he sat on a nearby rock, humming a tune and looking up at the clouds to give his little one the space he needed.
From behind the bush, there was a quiet rustling and a tiny relieved sigh. A few minutes later, Cubis popped his head out, looking a bit embarrassed but also much lighter on his feet. He ran back to his dad, who simply offered him a sip of water and a soft pat on the head.
“Feel better?” Dad asked.
Cubis nodded shyly. “Much better.”
They continued their walk, hand in hand, as Dad said gently, “Even in the countryside, everybody needs a little privacy sometimes.”
And with that, Cubis giggled and felt a little braver. Maybe next time, it wouldn’t feel so awkward. But for now, he was just happy to be with Dad, in the great wide open.
