Eddie, I saw something today that made my heart skip a beat, and I had to tell you. There’s a dog named Brixie who is currently in the care of Tails of Hope dog rescue in Memphis, Tennessee. And, Eddie… she looks just like Chooch. Same soulful eyes. Same sweet, blocky face. The same soft ears that fold just so. When I saw her on the Fox 5 news segment, it felt like Chooch was somehow peeking through her. I couldn’t stop staring.
But it’s Brixie’s story that really broke me and warmed me at the same time. She was rescued after a horrific situation—her former owner beat her because she ate his leftover pizza. Can you imagine? A hungry dog, just trying to enjoy a slice of something good, and being punished so cruelly for it. It’s hard to even wrap your head around. But the good news is, that part of her story is over.

She’s safe now. Loved. Tails of Hope stepped in and gave her the care she desperately needed. They didn’t just feed her and heal her body—they celebrated her spirit. In fact, they threw her a pizza party. Not just as a cute gesture, but as a declaration: “You are safe now, and you’ll never be hurt over something so silly again.” She got to enjoy slices surrounded by laughter, love, and people who truly see her. Watching her wag her tail and light up with joy was like watching hope come back to life.
And Eddie, it felt like something Chooch would have been part of. You always said Chooch had this ability to connect with souls that were hurting. If he had met Brixie, I think he would’ve licked her face and laid next to her until she felt calm. He had that magic in him. Maybe that’s why seeing Brixie hit me so hard—because in some way, I felt Chooch’s light shining through her.
I just wanted you to know about her. Maybe it’s nothing. Or maybe it’s a small way that Chooch’s legacy is still working in the world—reaching out, comforting, protecting. Either way, Brixie has found her people now. And I’ll be cheering her on, hoping she finds the forever home she deserves—maybe even one with pizza nights.
Sending love,
Always thinking of Chooch.
