It was a quiet afternoon in the meadow when Lucky, the playful young puppy, suddenly stopped chasing butterflies and curled up on the grass, whimpering softly. His stomach ached terribly. He had eaten something odd behind the barn—perhaps a leftover snack someone had tossed—and now he regretted every bite.
Sunny, the kind-hearted golden retriever who acted like an older sibling to all the animals, noticed Lucky’s distress from across the field. Without hesitation, she trotted over and gently nudged him with her nose.
“Lucky? What’s wrong?” she asked with concern in her voice.
“My tummy hurts… a lot,” Lucky whimpered, his eyes teary.
“Don’t worry, I’ll help you,” Sunny said warmly.
Sunny remembered a patch of mint leaves growing near the riverbank. Their scent and taste often helped with tummy troubles. She carefully helped Lucky up and supported him as they walked together, slowly, toward the river.
But just as they reached a slippery path by the water, Lucky lost his balance. In trying to catch him, Sunny slipped too! With a loud splash, both of them tumbled into the shallow stream below. Water went flying everywhere.
Lucky sat up, surprised, dripping wet but suddenly giggling. “Oops,” he said with a tiny smile.
Sunny shook herself off, spraying water in every direction. “Well, that wasn’t part of the plan,” she laughed, wagging her tail.
Despite the wet mess, the cold water seemed to help Lucky feel better. The two friends climbed out, muddy and soaked, but smiling. They found the mint leaves nearby, and Lucky nibbled a few. His stomach slowly started to settle.
Back at the barn, Sunny dried Lucky off with a towel and tucked him into a cozy pile of hay.
“Next time,” she said with a grin, “no mystery snacks behind the barn.”
Lucky nodded sheepishly. “Deal.”
And though an accident had happened, the day ended in laughter, warmth, and a stronger bond between two best friends.
