It was a quiet Sunday morning when Mom called Diem and Quynh into the living room. She had a soft smile on her face and a sparkle in her eyes. The girls exchanged curious glances, wondering what this was all about. Something felt different.
Mom took a deep breath and said, “I have something very special to tell you both… I’m pregnant.”
For a moment, silence filled the room. Diem’s eyes widened, and her jaw dropped. “Wait—what? Are you serious?” she asked, half-laughing in disbelief.
Quynh, younger and a bit more expressive, let out a squeal. “We’re going to have a baby?! Like, a real baby?!”
Mom nodded, tears forming in her eyes from both joy and nervousness. “Yes. You’re both going to be big sisters.”
Diem slowly started to smile, then broke into laughter. “Wow… I didn’t see that coming! That’s crazy—but kind of amazing.”
Quynh immediately rushed over to hug Mom. “I’m so excited! I want a little sister! Or maybe a little brother. Or both!”
The news began to sink in. Diem sat beside Mom and asked, “Are you okay? Is everything going well so far?”
Mom reassured them that everything was fine, and that she waited until she was sure to share the news. “I wanted you both to be part of this journey from the beginning.”
Quynh was already daydreaming about decorating the nursery, while Diem was quietly calculating what this would mean for their lives. Despite her practical nature, even she couldn’t stop smiling.
“I guess we have to make room in our lives—and in our hearts—for someone new,” Diem said softly.
Mom hugged them both tightly. “This baby is already so lucky to have you.”
