Monkey Lyly Pretended to Sleep Because She Didn’t Like the Vegetables Her Mother Had Prepared

Dinner time was usually Monkey Lyly’s favorite part of the day. She loved sitting at the table, swinging her little feet, and eagerly waiting for the delicious treats her mother would bring out. But today, as soon as Lyly peeked into the kitchen and spotted a big plate filled with green vegetables, her excitement vanished.

Her face immediately twisted into a frown. Broccoli, spinach, and carrots? That wasn’t what she had in mind for dinner! She had been hoping for bananas, sweet potatoes, or maybe a tasty bowl of noodles.

Quickly, Lyly came up with a plan. She tiptoed into the living room, climbed onto the couch, and curled herself into a tiny ball. She closed her eyes tight and slowed her breathing, pretending to be deep asleep.

“Lyly, dinner’s ready!” her mother called cheerfully from the kitchen. No response.

Smiling to herself, her mother walked over and gently shook Lyly’s shoulder. “Come on, sweetheart, it’s time to eat!”

Still, Lyly stayed perfectly still, only letting out a soft fake snore for extra effect.

Her mother chuckled quietly. She knew her little monkey well. Peeking at the plate of untouched vegetables on the table, she realized exactly what was going on. Instead of getting upset, she decided to play along. She whispered, “Oh no, poor Lyly is too tired to eat… I guess I’ll have to give her share to Mr. Teddy Bear.”

Hearing that, Lyly’s ears twitched. Her favorite stuffed animal was about to get her dinner?! She cracked one eye open just a little — enough for her mother to catch her.

“Aha! Someone’s awake!” her mother laughed, scooping Lyly up in her arms.

Caught red-handed, Lyly giggled and squirmed. Her mother sat her down at the table and promised, “How about this — if you eat just a few bites of vegetables, I’ll make you a sweet banana smoothie after?”

Lyly considered it seriously. A smoothie sounded too good to pass up. With a dramatic sigh, she picked up her fork and bravely tackled the greens, while her mother smiled proudly at her clever little monkey.
