From early morning, CUTIS was already wide awake, pacing back and forth near the gate. Every few minutes, he stood on his toes, peering down the road as if expecting someone important. Mom noticed right away—this wasn’t normal. CUTIS usually rushed to breakfast, but today he barely touched his food. His eyes stayed fixed on the distance, full of excitement and mystery.
Whenever Dad asked what he was doing, CUTIS only smiled and shook his head. He carefully straightened the chairs in the yard, wiped the small table, and even placed a flower in a cup. Each movement was deliberate, like a host preparing for a very special visitor. The air felt different, buzzing with anticipation.
Time passed slowly. CUTIS sat by the gate, then stood again, listening closely to every sound. A passing motorcycle made him jump. A neighbor’s voice made him tilt his head. Each time, hope flickered in his eyes—then faded. Still, he waited patiently, refusing to leave his spot.
As the sun climbed higher, Mom brought him water and gently suggested he rest. CUTIS nodded, but his attention never drifted far. He held something small in his hand, turning it over and over, clearly meant as a gift. Whatever this surprise was, it mattered deeply to him.
Finally, footsteps approached from the road. CUTIS froze. His ears perked up, and his face lit up with pure joy. He rushed forward, clapping his hands, unable to contain his excitement. The gate opened slowly, and there stood the special guest—a familiar smile, warm and kind.
It was Uncle Phong.
CUTIS ran straight into his arms, hugging him tightly. Months of waiting melted away in that instant. Uncle Phong laughed, lifting CUTIS high, just as he used to. The small gift was proudly presented, and Uncle Phong’s eyes softened with emotion.
The mystery was solved, but the joy was just beginning. Sometimes, the most special guests are the ones our hearts have been waiting for all along.
