Monkey Kaka! Why is Mom Sitting on the Stairs Sad?

It was a quiet afternoon, and the house was unusually still. Monkey Kaka, usually full of energy and bouncing from one room to another, noticed something was off. His curious eyes scanned the room until he spotted Mom sitting alone on the stairs outside, her head resting in her hands. She looked… sad.

Kaka tilted his head in confusion. This wasn’t like Mom at all. She was always smiling, laughing, and chasing after him, Diem, and Quynh with snacks and stories. But now, she sat there silently, lost in thought.

With slow steps, Kaka approached her, clutching his favorite little stuffed banana. He paused at her feet and gently reached out to tug her sleeve. “Eeek?” he chirped softly, his eyes wide with concern. Mom looked down, surprised, and gave him a faint smile.

“Oh, Kaka,” she sighed, brushing her hand through his fur. “I’m just a little tired and worried. Sometimes, grown-ups feel like this too.”

Kaka didn’t fully understand, but he knew one thing for sure—he didn’t like seeing Mom sad. So, he did what he knew best: he made her laugh.

First, he placed the banana toy on his head like a hat and wobbled around in circles, making silly faces. Then he pulled out Diem’s sunglasses from the flowerpot where he’d hidden them earlier and struck a dramatic pose like a movie star. Mom couldn’t help but giggle through her tears.

Hearing the laughter, Diem and Quynh came running. Soon the stairs turned into a cheerful little stage—Diem sang a song, Quynh made shadow puppets, and Kaka performed his famous “funny tail wiggle.”

Mom finally laughed out loud, wiping away the sadness from her face. “Thank you, my little monkeys,” she said, hugging them close. “You always know how to cheer me up.”

And just like that, what started as a sad moment turned into one filled with love, joy, and a reminder that sometimes, the smallest hearts carry the biggest comfort.
