As Cutis grew older, everyone noticed how much more responsible he had become. Gone were the days when he spent all afternoon playing tricks and chasing butterflies around the yard. Now, Adult Cutis proudly stood by Mom’s side, helping with every task, especially during the difficult week when Dad fell sick.
Dad, usually full of energy and laughter, suddenly became weak and quiet. He lay wrapped in thick blankets, coughing softly, and Mom worried constantly. Without being told, Cutis stepped right in, determined to support the family in any way he could.
Every morning, he followed Mom from room to room, watching carefully and mimicking her actions. When Mom prepared warm herbal tea for Dad, Cutis carried the spoon, tapping it gently against the cup as if checking the temperature himself. When Mom wiped Dad’s forehead with a warm cloth, Cutis climbed up beside her, placing his tiny hand on Dad’s arm as a sign of affection.
He even helped with chores. Cutis brought tissues, fetched water, and guarded the door so Dad could rest undisturbed. His serious little face made everyone smile—he took his job as “Mom’s assistant” very seriously.
Sometimes, he would sit beside Dad and quietly pat his chest, as if encouraging him to breathe easier. Other times, he gently lifted Dad’s hand and held it with both of his own. Those moments melted Mom’s heart. She knew Cutis didn’t understand sickness the way humans do, but he understood love—and that was enough.
In the evenings, when Mom cooked dinner, Cutis stayed close, handing her small items and watching the pot simmer as if he were the chef. It was touching to see how mature and dependable he had become. Even the neighbors noticed his dedication and praised him warmly.
Days passed, and Dad slowly regained his strength. When he finally sat up and smiled, Cutis squeaked with joy, leaping into his arms for a long, relieved hug. Mom watched them with teary eyes, grateful for the little helper who carried the family through a tough time.
