iem cried when her dad teased her that she was not like her dad
It was an ordinary Saturday morning, and the sun was just beginning to shine through the windows of the house. Diem and her dad were sitting at the kitchen table, enjoying breakfast together. The atmosphere was light, and laughter filled the air. But suddenly, Diem’s dad, in a playful mood, teased her about something innocent.
“You know, Diem,” he said with a mischievous grin, “you’re nothing like me. You’re much more like your mom. She’s all neat and tidy, while I’m the one who can never keep things in order.”
Diem, a little surprised by the comment, paused for a moment. She hadn’t expected to hear that from her dad. At first, she let out a small giggle, trying to brush it off as a joke. But deep down, a small part of her felt something shift.
“You’re really not like me, huh?” Diem asked, her voice a little quieter than usual. She didn’t understand why, but a wave of sadness seemed to wash over her.
Her dad, realizing his words had stung more than he intended, tried to laugh it off and lighten the mood. “Oh, come on, Diem, I was just kidding! You know I love you just the way you are.”
But it was too late. Diem’s eyes welled up with tears, and before her dad could say anything else, she burst into tears. She felt a deep sadness that her dad, who she admired so much, didn’t think she was like him. She wanted to be like him—fun-loving, carefree, and always able to make others smile. But in that moment, all she could feel was the sting of his words.
Her dad, now realizing how much he had hurt her, quickly moved to comfort her. He pulled her into a warm hug, telling her how much she meant to him and how she had so many qualities that made her unique. Diem’s tears began to subside as her dad reassured her that she was perfect just the way she was—whether she was like him or not.
