It was a quiet afternoon in the little monkey family’s home. The sunlight filtered softly through the leaves, but Cubis sat by the window, his eyes glistening. Luk, his best friend and constant companion, had gone away for a few days to visit his family. Though it had only been a short time, for Cubis, it felt like forever. Every morning, he would wake up hoping to hear Luk’s cheerful laugh or feel his playful tap on the shoulder—but the house had been silent.
Then, one bright morning, a familiar voice echoed from outside. “Cubis! I’m back!” Luk shouted, waving his little hands excitedly. Cubis froze for a moment, his heart racing. He ran to the door, his eyes widening when he saw Luk standing there, smiling and holding a small fruit basket as a gift. But instead of jumping with joy, Cubis suddenly burst into tears.
Luk was startled. “Cubis, why are you crying? I’m home!” he said gently, wiping his friend’s tears. Between sobs, Cubis sniffled, “I… I missed you so much! I thought you wouldn’t come back.” His voice trembled, filled with days of loneliness and longing.
Luk hugged him tightly. “Oh, Cubis, I would never leave you. You’re my best friend! I came back just like I promised.” Cubis clung to him, finally smiling through his tears. The two monkeys sat together under the big mango tree, sharing fruits and laughter as if they had never been apart.
That evening, the air was filled with warmth and happiness again. Luk told stories about his trip, and Cubis listened eagerly, his heart light once more. Before going to bed, Cubis whispered, “Promise you’ll always come back?” Luk nodded and said, “Always.”
From that day on, Cubis learned that true friendship doesn’t fade with distance—it grows stronger with every reunion. And whenever he saw Luk’s smile, he remembered that some bonds are too special to ever be broken.
