The mother cat giving birth with difficulty is always visited by another interested cat – The End.

In a quiet corner of an old shed, a mother cat lay restless on a pile of cloth. Her body trembled with the strain of giving birth. Hours passed, but the kittens did not come easily. She let out low, pained cries, curling her paws against the floor, her breath shallow and labored. It was clear she was fighting with all her strength to bring her babies into the world.

Outside the shed, another cat lingered. He wasn’t part of her family, nor had he shown much interest in her before. But on this day, he stayed close, peeking inside with cautious eyes. Each time the mother cat cried, he inched closer, as though drawn by concern. He didn’t interfere, but he never left, pacing quietly and sitting near the doorway as though to guard her.

The mother cat struggled on. Between contractions, she glanced at the visitor. Perhaps she sensed his presence as a comfort, a silent companion in her darkest hours. The visitor cat remained calm, his eyes fixed on her, his tail flicking anxiously. Every time she let out a cry, he answered with a soft meow, as though whispering encouragement.

Finally, after what felt like endless pain, the first kitten slipped into the world. The mother cat, exhausted but determined, licked her baby clean. The visitor cat leaned forward, ears perked, watching every movement with fascination. Another kitten followed, then another—each arrival a hard-fought victory.

Though he never stepped inside, the visitor stayed until the very end. When the last kitten was born and curled safely beside their mother, he let out one final meow and slowly walked away, his mission complete. The mother cat, though weary, closed her eyes with her newborns nestled against her, comforted not only by their warmth but by the memory of that silent guardian who had stayed through her struggle.

Sometimes, even in the animal world, empathy shows itself in the most unexpected ways.
