Cubis fell asleep on the balcony because he wanted to watch a shooting star

The night was calm, and the sky was painted with countless twinkling stars. Little Cubis had heard Mom mention that a shooting star might appear tonight, and from that moment on, he was determined not to miss it. With his favorite blanket wrapped around his shoulders, he tiptoed onto the balcony and settled down, eyes fixed on the dark sky.

At first, it was exciting. Cubis pointed at constellations, whispering to himself about the shapes they made—“That one looks like a banana!” he giggled. The cool breeze brushed against his cheeks, and the gentle sound of crickets filled the night air. He imagined how magical it would be to see a star shoot across the sky, leaving a glowing trail behind it.

Minutes turned into an hour, and the balcony grew quiet. His little eyes blinked heavily as sleep tried to pull him away. Still, Cubis fought it, determined to wait. “Just one star,” he murmured, “then I’ll go to bed.” But his blanket grew warmer, his head rested against the railing, and soon his tiny snores joined the night sounds.

When Mom came to check on him, she found Cubis curled up peacefully, the moonlight softening his face. She smiled, realizing his stubborn determination had turned into a sweet slumber. Gently, she tucked the blanket tighter around him, careful not to wake him, and whispered, “Maybe you’ll see a shooting star in your dreams.”

And perhaps he did. As Cubis dreamed, his face lit up with little smiles, as if he really was watching a magical star streak across the sky just for him. Though he never saw it with open eyes that night, the wonder and hope in his heart were enough to make the world feel bright.

Sometimes, the magic isn’t in catching the moment, but in believing it will come. For Cubis, falling asleep under the stars became its own kind of wish—a reminder that dreams themselves can be the most beautiful shooting stars of all.
