Monkey Lyly loved going out more than anything else. Whether it was a short walk to the garden or a trip to the busy market, she always enjoyed the sights, smells, and especially the chance to play. But one sunny morning, Lyly’s mother had to leave quickly, and for the first time, she didn’t take Lyly with her.
As the door closed behind her mother, Lyly sat frozen for a moment, her little face scrunched with disbelief. “She left without me?” Lyly thought, her tiny hands gripping her toy. Her lips quivered, and then came the pout. She stomped around the room, huffing and puffing, clearly upset.
First, she sat by the window, watching carefully for her mom’s return. Then she crossed her arms tightly, refusing even to look at her favorite fruit on the table. Usually, nothing could come between Lyly and a juicy banana, but today, she was determined to show how angry she felt.
When her mother finally returned, arms full of groceries, she was greeted not with hugs, but with Lyly turning her head away dramatically. Mom tried calling her sweetly, but Lyly sat stubbornly in the corner, refusing to respond.
“Oh, Lyly,” Mom sighed with a gentle smile. “You’re upset because I didn’t take you with me, aren’t you?” Lyly peeked at her from the corner of her eye but quickly turned away again, pouting even harder.
That’s when Mom pulled out a surprise—Lyly’s favorite snack, fresh mangoes, and a little toy she had picked up from the market just for her. Lyly’s eyes lit up despite her best effort to stay mad. Slowly, she inched closer, curiosity winning over her anger.
Mom kissed her forehead and whispered, “I’ll never forget you, my little one. Sometimes I have to go alone, but you are always in my heart.” Lyly finally let out a giggle, hugged her mom tightly, and happily munched on her mango.
Her upset mood disappeared, and the house was once again filled with laughter.
