The girl picked up the strange animal, then she was shocked to know it was a kitten.

On her way home from school, Lily spotted something small and shivering by the roadside. At first glance, she thought it was just a bundle of leaves blown together by the wind. But then—it moved. Curious, she stepped closer and saw a tiny, strange-looking creature huddled in the grass.

It didn’t quite look like anything she recognized. Its fur was so dirty and matted that it seemed more like a ball of mud than an animal. Its body was trembling, and its little head was tucked down so low that Lily could barely make out its face. For a moment, she hesitated. Was it even safe to touch?

But then she heard it—a faint, heartbreaking sound. Meow.

Lily gasped. “Wait… is this a kitten?”

Carefully, she scooped the little creature into her hands. Under the dirt and tangles, she felt the fragile frame of a kitten no bigger than her palm. Its eyes, half-closed and crusted from exhaustion, blinked weakly up at her. Despite its rough state, there was no mistaking it now.

Shock turned into determination. “Oh, you poor baby,” Lily whispered. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you.”

She wrapped the kitten gently in her scarf and hurried home. The first thing she did was give it a warm bath, watching as the water revealed soft patches of white and gray fur beneath the grime. The kitten meowed again, this time louder, as if slowly realizing it was finally safe.

After drying him off, Lily offered a small dish of milk. The kitten lapped eagerly, its tiny tail flicking with newfound energy. For the first time, Lily saw the spark of life return to his eyes.

That night, as the kitten curled against her chest, Lily couldn’t help but smile. What had seemed like a strange, unidentifiable creature on the roadside had turned out to be a fragile little life waiting for love.

Sometimes, the most beautiful discoveries come in the most unexpected forms—and Lily knew she had just found a friend forever.
