Aunt had always thought Cubis the monkey preferred dry land. After all, he spent most of his days climbing trees, swinging from the balcony rail, and chasing leaves in the garden. So, when the family decided to visit the nearby lake one sunny afternoon, Aunt was certain Cubis would stay far away from the water.
But Cubis had other plans. The moment they arrived, his curious eyes locked on the shimmering surface of the lake. At first, he dipped a single hand into the water, splashing and giggling at the ripples. Aunt stood nearby, amused but unworried. That changed in a heartbeat.
Without any warning, Cubis leapt straight into the lake with a graceful splash! Aunt’s jaw dropped. She rushed to the edge, ready to pull him out, but instead of flailing, Cubis swam confidently toward the middle like a seasoned swimmer. His little arms paddled in perfect rhythm, and his legs kicked with surprising strength.
“Cubis! Where did you learn this?” Aunt exclaimed, but Cubis was too busy enjoying himself. He turned in the water, paddled back toward shore, and then—before Aunt could even catch her breath—dived under! Bubbles rose to the surface as he disappeared for a few seconds, making Aunt’s heart race. Then, up he popped, grinning and holding a shiny pebble he had found underwater.
Soon, he was showing off all kinds of “moves”—floating on his back, diving for sticks, even splashing water toward Aunt just to make her squeal. The other family members couldn’t stop laughing at the sight of a monkey who swam better than most humans.
By the end of the day, Cubis was completely soaked, his fur sticking in every direction, but he looked incredibly proud of himself. Aunt, still a little stunned, wrapped him in a towel and muttered, “I thought you were just a tree monkey, but clearly, you’re part fish too.”
Cubis gave her a cheeky grin, as if to say, You haven’t seen anything yet.
If you want, I can make a more playful, over-the-top comedic version so Cubis’s swimming antics are even wilder and more surprising.
