Little Poki had been eyeing the ripe, juicy lychees hanging from the tree all morning. Their sweet scent floated through the air, tempting him with every breeze. While his mom was busy sweeping the yard, Poki tiptoed toward the tree, his little hands ready to reach for his favorite fruit.
He looked around to make sure the coast was clear. With a mischievous grin on his face, Poki reached up, stretching his arms as far as they could go. The lychees swayed just out of reach, but that didn’t stop him. He stacked a small bucket on a wooden box and climbed up carefully, determined to snatch one.
Just as he was about to grab the nearest lychee, a familiar voice called out sharply from behind him—his mom. “Poki! What are you doing up there?” she asked, raising her eyebrows.
Startled, Poki nearly lost his balance. He quickly hopped down, holding his hands behind his back as if nothing had happened. But the guilty look on his face gave it all away. His mom walked over and gently but firmly scolded him, reminding him that he needed to ask before picking fruit and that climbing like that was dangerous.
Poki’s face dropped in disappointment. He really wanted that lychee. But his mom, softening at his sad expression, picked one herself and handed it to him. “Next time, just tell me. I’ll help you,” she said kindly.
Poki beamed with happiness, his earlier mischief quickly forgotten. As he munched on the juicy lychee, sitting safely on the ground next to his mom, he learned an important lesson—not just about patience and safety, but also about the love and care his mom always showed him, even when he made a mistake.
And from that day on, Poki never tried to sneak lychees again—well, at least not when Mom was watching!
