his next move. Cubis, the clever little pup with a mischievous streak, had decided that today, sleeping in was not an option for Dad. What followed had the whole family laughing for hours!
Dad had stayed up late the night before and wasn’t responding to Cubis’s usual wake-up nudges. The gentle paw on the cheek and quiet whining didn’t work. But Cubis wasn’t giving up. He trotted out of the room with determination—and came back with something in his mouth. At first, it looked like one of Dad’s socks, but then Cubis leapt onto the bed, dropped it right onto Dad’s face, and waited.
It wasn’t just any sock. It was the gym sock. The sweaty, worn, post-run kind that had been forgotten near the laundry hamper. The moment it landed on Dad’s face, he bolted upright, confused and startled. “Wha—Cubis! What is that?!” he exclaimed, as Cubis wagged his tail proudly, tongue out, clearly satisfied with his performance.
But Cubis wasn’t done yet. He ran in circles, barking excitedly, and then dashed out of the room—only to return with Dad’s phone. He dropped it on Dad’s chest and barked once more, as if to say, “Time to start the day, old man!”
The whole scene was witnessed by Mom, who had just walked in with her coffee. She burst out laughing so hard she nearly spilled her cup. “Well, I guess Cubis is our new alarm clock,” she chuckled.
Dad couldn’t help but laugh too. “He’s smarter than I thought,” he said, rubbing his eyes and petting Cubis on the head. “Alright, buddy. You win.”
From that day on, everyone knew—when Cubis wanted something, he’d find the funniest, cleverest way to make it happen. And no one in the family would ever oversleep again without a little surprise from Cubis!
