Monkey Lyly and her kitten, Mimi, had been inseparable since the day Mimi arrived. They napped together, shared snacks, and played hide-and-seek until sunset. Lyly always watched over her tiny friend like a proud big sister. But one morning, Mimi was nowhere to be found. Her basket was empty, and the soft meows Lyly usually woke up to had vanished.
Lyly panicked. She ran to Mom, tugging at her sleeve with worried eyes. Mom gently explained that the neighbor had temporarily taken Mimi to check on her health because she hadn’t been eating well. “She’ll be back soon, Lyly,” Mom assured her. But Lyly didn’t want to wait. Without Mimi, the house felt too quiet, too lonely.
After pacing back and forth, she made a decision. Lyly quietly slid open the gate, tip-toed across the yard, and sneaked toward the neighbor’s house. Her tiny heart pounded with every step. She climbed up the fence, peeking over with her big curious eyes.
And then—there she was! Mimi sat inside a soft blanket, being bottle-fed, her little tail flicking happily. Lyly’s chest filled with relief. She squeaked softly, waving her hands to get Mimi’s attention.
“Mimi!” Lyly whispered as she slipped through the gate and hurried toward her. Mimi perked up and let out the faintest meow. Lyly scooped her into a warm cuddle, burying her face in Mimi’s fur. She didn’t even notice the neighbor walking toward them with a surprised smile.
“Oh Lyly… you missed her, didn’t you?” the neighbor chuckled kindly. He knelt down and gently stroked both of them. “Don’t worry, she’s doing better now. She just needed a little help to feel strong again.”
Lyly hugged Mimi even tighter, promising in her heart never to let her go again. Mom soon arrived and thanked the neighbor before lifting both Lyly and Mimi into her arms.
Back home, Lyly lay curled around Mimi protectively. She kissed her tiny head and watched her sleep peacefully.
In that moment, Lyly understood—love means being there, no matter what. And now that Mimi was home again, Lyly felt whole once more.
