Monkey Lyly doesn’t understand why her mother is lazy today and doesn’t prepare breakfast for her.

Early in the morning, the sun peeked through the window, and little Monkey Lyly stretched her tiny arms, ready to start a brand-new day. Usually, she could already smell her mother’s delicious breakfast—sweet bananas, warm porridge, and maybe even a cup of coconut milk. But today was different. The house was quiet, and the kitchen was still.

Lyly rubbed her sleepy eyes and looked around. “Mom?” she called softly. No answer. She tiptoed to her mother’s room and found her still lying in bed. “Mommy! It’s morning already! Aren’t you going to make breakfast?” Lyly asked, tilting her head in confusion.

Her mother smiled weakly and said, “Mommy feels a little tired today, Lyly. Can you let me rest a bit longer?” Lyly’s eyes widened. “Tired? But you never sleep this late!” she said, pouting. She didn’t understand why her usually cheerful and busy mom suddenly wanted to stay in bed.

Feeling a mix of worry and curiosity, Lyly decided to take matters into her own hands. “If Mommy is lazy today,” she whispered, “then I’ll make breakfast myself!” She hurried into the kitchen, dragging a stool to reach the counter. She peeled a banana (after accidentally squishing the first one), poured milk into a bowl, and even tried to toast some bread—though it came out a little burnt.

When she brought the food to her mom, she beamed proudly. “Here, Mommy! I made breakfast for you!” Her mom sat up, touched by her little girl’s effort. “Oh, my sweet Lyly,” she said, pulling her close. “You’re such a thoughtful monkey. Mommy just needed a bit of rest, but you’ve made my day so much better.”

Lyly hugged her tightly, realizing that even moms need a lazy day sometimes. Together, they shared the slightly messy breakfast, giggling between bites. And from that day on, Lyly promised that whenever Mom was tired, she would be the one to take care of breakfast—with extra love and maybe a little less burnt toast.
