The sight was almost unbearable—a stray dog lying weakly under a tree, his head swollen and oozing from a deep, infected wound. Flies buzzed around him, and inside the raw gash, maggots writhed, slowly eating away at his flesh. Each time he tried to shake his head, he whimpered in pain, too exhausted to fight anymore.
