She makes it hard to leave. I remember the day on the beach when we met and she made it hard to leave. Followed for a good quarter mile and then chased the car down 😩.

Some moments in life carve themselves so deeply into your heart that you know, right then and there, nothing will ever feel the same again. That’s exactly what happened the day I met her on the beach. I wasn’t looking for anything—just a quiet walk, the sound of the waves, and a little time to clear my head. But then she appeared, out of nowhere, with those big, curious eyes that seemed to look right into me.

At first, I thought it was just a coincidence. She padded beside me, step for step, as if we’d known each other forever. Every time I stopped, she stopped. Every time I started walking again, she trotted right along, tail swishing happily in the salty air. It wasn’t long before I realized she had no intention of letting me walk alone.

I tried to leave, I really did. After a good quarter mile together, I gave a little wave, turned back toward the car, and thought she’d lose interest. But when I opened the door, she didn’t just stand there—she chased after me, desperate not to let the connection end. My heart sank watching her tiny paws pounding the sand, trying to keep up as if to say, Don’t leave me. Not yet.

It was in that moment that I knew she had chosen me. Not the other way around. I couldn’t just shut the door and drive away, pretending that the bond we’d formed in such a short time wasn’t real. She had already made her place in my heart, and she made it nearly impossible to walk away.

Sometimes love doesn’t announce itself with fireworks or grand gestures. Sometimes it shows up quietly, barefoot on a beach, and follows you until you finally realize—you were never meant to leave without it.
