It had been a long afternoon of running, climbing, and chattering nonstop. Monkey Lyly had explored every corner of the yard, stolen two bananas from the fruit basket, and even tried to chase a butterfly—unsuccessfully, but with great enthusiasm. By the time evening came, her little eyes were drooping, and she could barely keep her head up.
She waddled over to her favorite corner, plopped down, and let out a big yawn. Within seconds, her eyelids began to flutter shut. But just as she was about to drift into dreamland… it happened.
A quiet trickle. Then a little puddle.
Lyly, still half-asleep, didn’t even notice at first—until the warm sensation made her jump up like she’d sat on something shocking. Her eyes flew open wide, scanning the floor in disbelief. Oh no…
In a flash, she scrambled away from the scene of the “accident,” her tail flicking nervously. She glanced over at Mom, who was watching with raised eyebrows. Lyly tried her best innocent face, as if to say, What? That wasn’t me!
But the little puddle on the floor told the truth.
Then came her “quick reaction”—a dramatic over-the-top performance. She ran in circles, grabbed a towel from the chair, and started dragging it across the floor like she was helping clean up. She even made little squeaky noises, pretending she had just discovered this mysterious wet spot.
Mom couldn’t hold back a laugh. “Nice try, Lyly,” she said, crouching down to take over the cleanup. Lyly sat nearby, watching intently, occasionally reaching out as if to assist. Once the floor was spotless, she hopped right into Mom’s lap, wrapping her tiny arms around her in a tight hug—as if an adorable cuddle session could erase all evidence of her little mishap.
Within minutes, Lyly’s head was drooping again. This time, Mom gently carried her to her bed, just in case.
Lesson learned? Maybe. But knowing Lyly, tomorrow would bring a brand-new adventure… and probably another funny mess.
