Monkey Lyly is worried and anxious because her mother comes home late at night.

The sky had turned a deep shade of blue, and stars twinkled above the treetops, but Monkey Lyly was far from calm. She paced back and forth by the window, her little hands pressed against the glass, eyes scanning the darkness. It was late—much later than usual—and her mother still hadn’t come home.

Every creak of the house made Lyly jump. Every car that passed sparked a burst of hope that vanished just as quickly. She clutched her favorite blanket tightly, her little tail twitching with nervous energy. The warm, happy feeling that usually filled the house was missing tonight, replaced by silence and worry.

Lyly had helped tidy the house earlier that day and even saved a sweet banana to share with Mom. But now the banana sat untouched on the table, and Lyly hadn’t eaten either. Her tiny stomach grumbled, but she didn’t care—her heart was too busy racing.

As the clock ticked past bedtime, Lyly curled up on the couch, blanket over her head, ears alert to every sound. She whispered to herself, “Mom will be home soon… she promised.” But doubt crept in. What if something had happened? What if Mom needed help?

Just as Lyly was about to cry, she heard the familiar jingle of keys and the soft creak of the front door opening. She bolted upright. “Mama?” she called out, her voice cracking.

There she was—tired, but safe. The moment Mom stepped inside, Lyly leapt into her arms, hugging her tightly. “I was so scared,” she said through tears.

Mom gently rocked her back and whispered, “I’m sorry, sweetheart. I didn’t mean to worry you. I’m home now.”

That night, Lyly fell asleep in her mother’s arms, heart finally at peace. From then on, Mom always made sure to let Lyly know when she’d be late—because even the bravest little monkey needs to know her mom is coming home.
