This morning started like any other—breakfast, giggles, and Cubis running around with his usual energy. But everything changed the moment Cubis saw his dad grab the hospital bag. The little monkey’s playful expression shifted into one of confusion, and then pure panic. “Where are you going?” he whimpered, clinging to Dad’s leg.
Dad knelt down to explain gently, “Just going to the hospital for a quick check-up, Cubis. I’ll be back before you know it.” But those words didn’t ease the worry in Cubis’s tiny heart. His eyes welled up with tears, and then came the declaration—loud and determined—“I want to go too! I’ll follow you, Dad! I promise I’ll be good!”
His voice cracked with emotion, and everyone in the room went still. His mom tried to calm him down, offering snacks, toys, even his favorite blanket—but nothing worked. Cubis only wanted one thing: to be by his father’s side. He sobbed into his paws, refusing to be separated. The depth of love and fear in that moment was enough to melt even the coldest heart.
Finally, seeing how upset Cubis was, Dad scooped him up for one last hug before heading out. “Be strong for me, okay?” he said, brushing a tear from Cubis’s cheek. “I’ll call you the moment I’m done.”
Though Cubis stayed behind, he sat by the door for hours, clutching one of Dad’s shirts and refusing to leave his post. And when the phone finally rang with Dad’s voice on the other end, Cubis let out the sweetest squeal of joy.
Some moments speak volumes without needing explanation. Today, Cubis reminded us that love isn’t measured in size—it’s in the tears, the declarations, and the way our hearts break when someone we love walks out the door. 💔🐒❤️
