Monkey Lyly was full of energy from the moment she woke up. It was haircut day, and she had been talking about it all morning. She kept glancing at herself in the mirror, shaking her little head dramatically. “Mom, look at this messy hair! It’s so long, I can’t see my cute ears anymore!” she whined.
Her mom, ever patient, was preparing the scissors and comb carefully at the table under the shade of the tree. But Monkey Lyly couldn’t wait a second longer. She danced around in circles, tugging at her fluffy locks and sighing loudly. “Mom, please hurry! I’m starting to look like a wild jungle monkey!”
Every few seconds, she would peek over to see if the scissors were ready. Then she’d plop herself down on the tiny stool, only to jump back up two seconds later, squealing, “I can’t sit still! I’m too excited!” Her tail twitched with impatience, and her eyes were wide with anticipation.
Her mom giggled, brushing Lyly’s hair gently. “If you don’t calm down, I might accidentally cut off your ear instead of your bangs!” That made Lyly freeze for a moment, then burst into laughter.
Finally, when everything was ready, Lyly sat down—still wiggling, but at least trying to behave. Her mother carefully trimmed around her little face, while Lyly looked up with sparkly eyes, imagining how fabulous she would look. “Do I look like a movie star yet?” she asked every minute.
When the haircut was done, Lyly jumped up and ran to the mirror. “OMG! I LOVE IT!” she squealed, spinning in delight. She hugged her mom tightly, “Thank you, thank you! You’re the best hairstylist in the whole jungle!”
From that day forward, Lyly couldn’t stop showing off her new haircut. But next time, her mom hoped she would learn a little patience. Then again, with Monkey Lyly, things were never calm for long!
