Cubis Monkey was usually full of energy, swinging from trees and laughing with his friends. But today, something was different. His tiny hands trembled, and his eyes darted nervously from side to side. He had accidentally knocked over Mom’s favorite flower pot while trying to reach a banana she had hidden on the windowsill. The pot shattered into tiny pieces on the floor, and Cubis froze.
“Oh no… this is BIG trouble,” he whispered to himself, his heart pounding.
Cubis didn’t mean to break anything. He just wanted a little snack before dinner. Now, he imagined Mom’s disappointed face and how upset she’d be seeing her favorite pot in ruins. He tried to gather the pieces, but they were sharp, and he didn’t want to hurt himself. He felt a lump in his throat.
Instead of cleaning up, Cubis did what he always did when he got nervous — he hid! He scurried behind the big couch and wrapped his arms around his knees. “Maybe if I stay quiet, she won’t find me,” he thought.
Time passed slowly. He could hear the sound of the front door opening. Mom was home. Her footsteps echoed closer and closer… until she saw the mess.
“Cubis?” her voice called gently. “What happened?”
Cubis peeked out with teary eyes and slowly walked over. “I’m sorry, Mom. I didn’t mean to break it. I was just trying to get the banana.”
Mom knelt down, gave him a hug, and said softly, “I know you didn’t mean to. I’m glad you told me the truth.”
Relief washed over Cubis. He realized that even when he made mistakes, hiding wasn’t the answer.
From that day on, Cubis promised to ask for help when he got into trouble — even big trouble.
