Little Poki the monkey woke up bright and early, stretching his tiny arms and yawning as the morning sun warmed his cozy bed. His tummy gave a loud grumble—he was ready for breakfast! Poki loved mornings because they usually meant sweet bananas, juicy mangoes, or crunchy papayas. Fruit was his absolute favorite!
But today, something was different. As he ran to the breakfast table with excitement in his eyes, he stopped in his tracks. There was no fruit bowl waiting for him. Instead, in a small dish, there was only a warm scoop of plain porridge.
Poki blinked, confused. He looked up at Thuy, his caretaker, with big round eyes. “Where are my bananas?” he seemed to ask. Thuy gently patted his head and smiled, “No fruit today, little one. Just porridge. The fruit delivery is coming tomorrow.”
Poki’s heart sank. He poked the porridge with his spoon and let out a soft, dramatic sigh. It wasn’t that porridge was bad—it was warm and soft—but it just wasn’t fruity and fun like his favorite snacks. He looked around at the other animals, hoping someone might share a piece of fruit, but everyone else was happily munching their own meals.
Still, Poki was a good little monkey. After a few moments of sulking, he picked up his spoon and gave the porridge a try. “Hmm…” he paused. It was actually kind of tasty. Maybe not as fun as a banana, but still warm and filling. With every bite, his grumpy face softened just a little.
After finishing his bowl, he clapped his hands and gave Thuy a big smile. Thuy laughed, hugging him close. “Good boy, Poki! Fruit will be back tomorrow.”
Poki nodded, already dreaming of sweet mangoes. But for today, he learned that sometimes, even when things don’t go your way, a little porridge and a lot of love can still make a morning special.
