It was a bright and sunny morning when little monkey Bibi woke up with an exciting idea. The mangoes in the back garden were finally ripe, and she couldn’t wait to pick them. She ran around the house looking for someone to join her. That’s when she spotted her favorite visitor—Uncle Phong!
“Uncle Phong! Come with me to harvest fruit! The mangoes are ready!” Bibi shouted happily, grabbing a small basket and pulling his hand.
Uncle Phong laughed. “Alright, Bibi, let’s go. But you have to be careful, okay?”
The two made their way to the backyard, where the mango tree stood tall and full of golden fruit. Bibi jumped up and down with excitement. “I want to climb up and pick the best one!”
Uncle Phong hesitated. “Maybe I should climb, and you can stay below to catch them.”
But Bibi was already halfway up the tree, quick and playful. She reached for a big mango just a little out of her reach. She stretched… and then suddenly—slip!
“Ahhh!” Bibi cried as she lost her balance and tumbled down.
Uncle Phong’s heart nearly stopped. He rushed over just as Bibi landed on a pile of soft leaves and grass. She had a small scratch on her arm and looked dazed but not badly hurt.
“Oh Bibi! Are you okay?” Uncle Phong asked, gently checking her.
Bibi sniffled, “I wanted to pick the biggest mango for you…”
Uncle Phong smiled gently. “Thank you, sweetheart. That’s very kind, but your safety is more important than any fruit.”
He cleaned her scratch and gave her a cuddle. They decided to stay on the ground and pick the low-hanging mangoes instead.
Later that afternoon, as they sat under the tree eating juicy slices of mango, Bibi leaned on Uncle Phong and whispered, “Next time, you climb, okay?”
Uncle Phong chuckled. “Deal.”
Though the day had a scare, Bibi learned an important lesson: some things are best done together—and safely!
