Wake Up, Don’t Lie There, Just Try a Little Harder – A Lady Has Come to the Rescue

He was lying motionless on the side of a dirt path—mud-covered, ribs showing, barely breathing. To most, he looked like he had already given up. But as I walked closer, something in my heart told me not to turn away. This little dog, fragile and lifeless, still had a tiny spark left in him.

“Wake up,” I whispered, kneeling beside him. “Don’t lie there, not yet. Just try a little harder.”

His eyes fluttered open for just a moment, and that was all I needed to see. He wanted to live. He just needed help. I gently scooped him into a towel, shielding his frail body from the wind, and rushed him to safety.

At home, I created a warm nest and offered him water, drop by drop. He couldn’t stand. He couldn’t bark. But every now and then, he tried to lift his head—as if he was fighting with all the strength he had left.

For hours I stayed by his side, massaging his limbs, feeding him tiny spoonfuls of broth, whispering, “You’re not alone anymore. A lady’s here to help you now.”

The first night was touch and go. But by morning, he moved his paw. By day two, he was able to sit up, if only for a second. I cried when he licked my hand for the first time—his silent way of saying thank you.

Day by day, he improved. Slowly, the dullness in his eyes turned into a bright light. He wagged his tail. He started to eat on his own. He stood up—shakily, but proudly—as if declaring, “I’m still here!”

That broken dog, once abandoned and forgotten, now follows me everywhere with love in his eyes.

He just needed someone to believe in him. And I’m so glad I did.
