After a long and tiring visit to the hospital, little Poki the monkey was finally home. Everyone expected him to feel better, but something wasn’t quite right. Poki seemed distant, quiet, and most concerning of all — he refused to eat.
At first, his caregivers thought he was just tired from the hospital trip. Poki had been sick and needed treatment, and the doctors had done everything they could to help him recover. But now that he was home, instead of bouncing back, Poki sat silently in the corner of his bed, his eyes filled with sadness.
Even when his favorite fruits — sweet bananas, juicy mango slices, and even little bits of watermelon — were placed in front of him, Poki turned away. He didn’t nibble, didn’t sniff, didn’t even look interested. His caregivers tried hand-feeding him, playing gentle music, and speaking softly to encourage him. Still, Poki wouldn’t eat.
Poki’s best friend, Pupu, noticed something was wrong too. Pupu had always been the cheerful, curious one, and he hated seeing Poki so down. He sat next to Poki, bringing him toys, touching his shoulder gently, and even offering him little bites from his own plate. But Poki simply rested his head and closed his eyes.
It was clear Poki was not just physically tired — he was emotionally drained. The hospital trip had scared him, and the unfamiliar sounds, smells, and separation had left a mark on his little heart.
What helped most in the end wasn’t food, but love. Poki’s caregivers stayed close, offering quiet cuddles and warmth. Pupu stayed by his side, refusing to leave him alone. And after two days of comfort and care, Poki finally took a small bite of banana.
It wasn’t much, but it was a start — a sign that his heart was healing, just like his body. Sometimes, the best medicine is knowing you’re safe and loved. 🐒💛
