Tiny Poki, the baby monkey with big round eyes and soft brown fur, had always been full of energy. He loved climbing trees, chasing leaves, and cuddling with his mom. But today was different. This morning, his caretaker gently wrapped him in a soft blanket and whispered, āItās time for your first checkup, little one.ā
At first, Poki didnāt understand. He clung tightly to his caretaker, sensing something unfamiliar. The ride to the animal hospital was quiet, with Poki peeking out of the blanket, watching the world pass by. When they arrived, the smell of medicine and the quiet beeping of machines made Poki nervous.
He tucked his head into his caretakerās chest as they entered the exam room. A kind veterinarian approached with a gentle smile. āDonāt worry, little Poki. Weāll take good care of you,ā she said softly. But Pokiās tiny heart was pounding.
First came the weighing scale. Poki sat on it with wide eyes, unsure of what was happening. Then the vet gently listened to his heartbeat with a cold stethoscope. Poki flinched but didnāt cry. He was trying to be brave.
Then came the moment Poki had dreaded mostāa tiny shot. His caretaker held him close, whispering calming words as the needle pricked his skin. Poki let out a small squeak, his eyes filling with tears. It hurt, but only for a second. And afterward, he was rewarded with a sweet fruit treat and lots of kisses.
The vet smiled and gave a thumbs-up. āHeās healthy and strong,ā she said. Poki looked up, still sniffling but feeling a little better.
By the end of the visit, Poki had started to relax. He even gave the vet a shy little hug before leaving. Back home, he curled up in his favorite blanket, tired from the big day but proud of himself.
His first hospital checkup was scary, but Poki showed courage in his own tiny way. And now, he was one step closer to growing up strong and healthy.
