I found a kitten with pus-filled eyes by roadside while walking my dog, flies were buzzing around it

It was supposed to be a normal afternoon walk with my dog, Max. The sun was shining gently, and we were strolling down a quiet road near a wooded area. Max suddenly stopped, his ears perked up. That’s when I heard it—a faint, raspy meow coming from the grass by the roadside.

I looked closer and my heart dropped.

There, curled up weakly beside a pile of leaves, was a tiny kitten. Its eyes were crusted shut, swollen and oozing with pus. Flies buzzed around its fragile body, landing on its face and tiny paws. The poor thing was barely moving, its breathing shallow and labored. My heart broke instantly.

Without thinking twice, I scooped the kitten up carefully, wrapping it in a soft cloth I had in Max’s dog bag. It didn’t resist—it was too weak. Max walked slowly beside me as if he understood we had to be gentle.

When we reached home, I rushed the kitten to the nearest emergency vet. The vet said the little one had a severe eye infection and was extremely dehydrated. If we hadn’t found it in time, it might not have survived another day.

They cleaned its eyes, gave it antibiotics and fluids, and wrapped it in warmth. I sat by the carrier the entire time, watching its tiny chest rise and fall, silently cheering it on. I named it “Hope.”

Hope is now safe at home with me, slowly recovering. Her eyes are starting to open, and every tiny purr feels like a miracle. She eats soft food, naps in cozy blankets, and Max watches over her like a big brother.

That kitten could’ve been just another lost soul, unseen and unheard. But I’m so grateful we crossed paths. Hope may have had a rough start, but now she has a second chance—and all the love she needs.
