It’s hard to believe that Chooch is really gone. My heart still refuses to accept it. Chooch wasn’t supposed to leave me this way, so suddenly, so silently. If there’s any comfort I can find in this unbearable loss, it’s the thought that maybe—just maybe—he didn’t want me to see him in pain. That’s who he was. Always strong, always protecting me, even when he was the one who needed protecting.
CiCi has been wandering the house, poking her head into all of Chooch’s favorite hiding spots. She doesn’t understand where her big brother went. She keeps looking for him, and every time she does, my heart shatters all over again. Pets know more than we give them credit for, and I know she feels this grief too. We both do.
But through the tears and the quiet moments, I want to say thank you. Thank you to every single one of you who’s reached out, shared your love, your memories, and your support. The world feels a little less lonely knowing how many hearts Chooch touched. He was more than a pet—he was a legend. A big, beautiful soul who brought laughter, joy, and love to everyone he met. And legends, as they say, never die.
Even now, as we prepare to honor International Pizza Crust Friday, I can’t help but smile through the sadness. Chooch lived for pizza crusts. It was his thing—his treat, his celebration. So yes, this Friday, we’re still going to celebrate. We’ll eat those crusts for him, and we’ll raise a slice to the King himself.
Grief is heavy, but love is heavier. And I feel all of your love wrapping around me, CiCi, and the memory of Chooch. Thank you for that. Thank you for being here in this space where we can laugh, cry, and remember together.
