It was a peaceful night in the jungle, and all the animals were settling in for some much-needed rest. Mama Monkey had just finished grooming little Lyly and gently rocked her baby to sleep. As Lyly snuggled into the soft leaves of their nest, Mama Monkey sighed with relief, finally ready to get a few hours of rest herself.
But just as she closed her eyes, she heard an unusual sound—a wet splatter followed by a strong, unmistakable smell.
Uh-oh.
She turned around and gasped. There it was—chaos. Monkey Lyly had accidentally pooped… everywhere. On the leaves, on the branches, even on Mama Monkey’s favorite sleeping spot.
“OMG, Lyly!” Mama Monkey cried out, lifting her little one up and inspecting the mess. Lyly blinked innocently, not quite understanding the disaster she had just unleashed.
Mama Monkey got to work, cleaning the mess with whatever she could find—leaves, bark, and even some of the soft moss she’d saved for a pillow. All the while, Lyly giggled and clapped her hands, thinking it was all a game. Meanwhile, Mama Monkey was running on zero sleep and maximum frustration.
Just when she thought she had it under control, Lyly let out another rumble from her tummy.
“No, no, no!” Mama Monkey said, holding out her hands as if to stop it with pure willpower.
Too late.
The second wave hit.
By now, the neighboring monkeys were poking their heads out of their nests, whispering and giggling. Mama Monkey’s cheeks burned with embarrassment. She gave them a sheepish grin and muttered, “Baby troubles…”
As dawn broke, the mess was finally cleaned up. Mama Monkey hadn’t slept a wink. Lyly, however, curled up against her chest and fell into the deepest, most peaceful sleep of her life.
Mama Monkey sighed. “Next time, bananas after bedtime.”
