Mother Had to Leave Diem and Quynh to Take Care of Grandmother
The house felt strangely quiet that morning. Diem and Quynh sat at the table, their breakfast untouched, glancing toward the door that had just closed behind their mother. Usually, their mornings were filled with laughter, the sound of their mother’s voice reminding them to brush their teeth or hurry up and eat. But today was different—Mom had to leave, and the reason left both girls with a mix of sadness and worry.
Their grandmother, whom they loved dearly, had fallen ill. It wasn’t something sudden, but this time, her condition had worsened. Mom received a call late the previous night and, without hesitation, packed a bag and said she needed to be with Grandma for a few days. She hugged Diem and Quynh tightly, reassuring them with gentle words, “Be good for Dad. I’ll call you every day, okay? Grandma needs me right now.”
Diem nodded, but her eyes filled with tears. Quynh clung to her mom’s leg, not wanting her to go. It wasn’t just the absence of their mother that made them sad—it was the fear of someone they loved being sick.
Throughout the day, Dad tried his best to keep things cheerful. He cooked their favorite lunch and let them stay up a little later than usual. But the girls kept glancing at the phone, waiting for Mom’s video call. When it finally rang, they both ran to it with bright eyes.
Mom looked tired but smiled warmly. She told them Grandma was resting and that she’d shared pictures of them, which made Grandma smile for the first time that day. Diem and Quynh felt proud, knowing that even from afar, they could bring happiness to someone who needed it.
Though the house still felt a little emptier than usual, Diem and Quynh understood something important—that sometimes, love means being there for others when they need you most. And while they missed their mother dearly, they knew she was doing something special, just like the superhero they believed her to be.
